Since 2012, through the Sam’s Club Giving Program, the Walmart Foundation has been a critical supporter of Accion’s work to increase inclusive opportunity so diverse small business owners can build a better life for themselves and their families throughout the U.S. This has included support to the following initiatives:
- The Driving Small Business Success campaign, which aimed to ensure that small low- to moderate-income, minority, and immigrant business owners had access to fairly priced capital when searching for loans online through an e-commerce strategy
- The WE-Lend Initiative to support women entrepreneurs, for which Accion conducted workshops in collaboration with 19 Women’s Business Centers across the country to help women entrepreneurs understand their credit and financing options for their small businesses
- A significant investment in technology to help Accion modernize and streamline our lending operations across the country in order to more efficiently reach a greater number of diverse entrepreneurs with access to capital.
Currently, the Walmart Foundation’s support is helping Accion strengthen our lending operations and data analytics capacity to better understand our customers and their needs; strengthen our loan applicant sourcing and nurturing; and increase our outreach to under-served entrepreneurs through the pursuit of national referral partnerships, industry engagement, and knowledge sharing opportunities.
