The Director of Finance & Compliance position at Accion serving Southern California reports to the CFO of the organization.  This integral management team member assesses internal controls and maintains compliance across the organization, including finance, lending, grants & pension management. This position also analyzes processes between departments to increase stability, efficiency & procedures to maximize benefits to the organization, as well as supporting capacity for daily departmental activities.

Accion Serving the East Coast is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Underwriter located in New York, NY.  For more information, see https://us.accion.org/.

 

Role

Using past underwriting practices, our current policies/guidelines, analytical skills and sound judgment, the Underwriter’s role is to decide whether and on what terms to extend a loan to a small business owner?  While supporting the organization’s lending goals, the Underwriter is also responsible for ensuring we maintain a quality portfolio.  The Underwriter works with the lending and loan service teams and reports to the Credit Risk Manager as part of three-person team that evaluates up to 150 loans a month.  Huge potential for thought leadership and growth.

 

Outcomes

  • Review up to 50 loan submissions and approve up to $500,000 per month, in a manner consistent with policies and procedures and good business judgment
  • Maintain three (3) business day turnaround from submission to UW to loan approval
  • Maintain portfolio quality of 4% delinquency (30-day) or lower
  • Perform monthly credit quality analysis on active loan portfolio, as needed by Credit Risk Manager

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required with concentration in business, economics, and/or finance
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Preferred: Work experience in the financial service industry
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of Salesforce application
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish

 

Compensation

  • Competitive salary depending on experience

Mission of the Loan Consultant

The Loan Consultant is responsible for building our brand and establishing our presence as the microlender in New England.  This position’s responsibilities include the development, cultivation and growth of business lending in New England.  The Loan Consultant is focused on outreach to partners (banking institutions, government organizations and community partners) to originate quality loan applications.  The Loan Consultant is directly responsible for monthly business development and sales goals.  The Loan Consultant will report to the Lending Team Leader.

 

Outcomes

  • Deliver on monthly sales goals by lending $55,000 to 5 business owners;
  • Deliver on monthly new loan conversion at a threshold of 20% or higher;
  • Work to build a portfolio so that 40% of monthly disbursements are refinance applications;
  • Deliver on generating and converting 25 leads a month from clients;
  • Deliver 5 sales presentations a month in coordination with the outreach strategy;
  • Develop new and cultivate existing referral relationships that generate high levels of customer satisfaction of 80% or greater as measured by the Net Promoter Score (NPS);

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Three years’ experience working in small business; prior business experience/sales skills preferred;
  • Bilingual -English and Spanish preferred;
  • Self-Motivator/Self-Starter can build a new region of growth for the organization;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders/partner relationships;
  • Ability to plan and conduct business workshops on a variety of business-related topics (financial management, marketing, managing cash flow, business credit, business plan development and implementation, etc.);
  • Creative thinker and problem solver;
  • Good presentation and math skills; knowledge of Word and Excel.
